Monday - Thursday 9am-3pm, Friday 9am- 1pm
Responsible kids ages 10 years and up learn to work in clay, in my Williamstown pottery studio, using the same materials and techniques I use. Each 5 day session will include introductions to pinch, coil, slab, and hand building, as well as sculpting and wheel throwing.
The class is designed to stimulate creativity and discovery. Projects will range from functional ware to abstract sculpture. Each session unfolds as students imagine, explore their own interests, and create while expressing their own artistic styles.
Although I avoid the idea of a "typical week", a potential schedule follows:
Monday - Orientation and introduction to the studio, equipment, tools, and materials. Work in wet clay - make pinch pots and explore ideas in sculpture.
Tuesday - Introduction to wheel throwing, hand-building tiles, and decorating with surface texture.
Wednesday - Coil-building / paddling, wheel throwing / altering, and trimming.
Thursday - Slab building, sculpting, and decorating with colored slip.
Friday - Completing all projects, trimming, decorating, and hand-building. Students return a few weeks later to glaze their bisque-fired work, and again a week later to pick up their finished creations.
Drop-off is at 9am, and pick-up is at 3pm Mon- Thurs, and 9am- 1pm on Fridays.
Parents are invited to stay and make a pinch pot or two!
We will take a mid-day break for lunch. Students should bring a bag lunch. On very hot days, with parental approval, our lunch break may include a swim at Margaret Lindley Park.
Tuition for each week-long session is $425 and includes
everything - instruction, materials, glazing, and firing.
